Wade,
I followed the print, pretty much, also, and have had no issues so far in 42+ flight hours. This only thing I did was to extend the kit supplied Andiar fuel valve to the floor using the Andair extension rod. This got rid of the extra up-loop in the system. This was just a personal preference and not based on any known problem with the way the print states.
If you have searched the archives, then you have seen that people on the board are all over the map on this topic. Some opinions were even un-wise, and in one case, at least the builder fessed up to a mistake he made so we all could benefit from it. You will still have to search your own soul to see what you think makes the most sense in your case.
In full agreement with the KISS principal,

Wade, when I plumed my XL fuel system years ago, I sent in a bunch of photos that should still be on a site call "601.org" if I'm not mistaken. Best of Luck, Bill of Georgia

Wade,
I tried to e-mail you some pictures but it got bounced back telling me that the address in your post was invalid. Give me a good e-mail address and I can send you a few pictures.

Wade, I gave you the wrong site: it's CH601.org. I just brought it up and a bunch of my fuel system photos are there. I used metal lines and a fuel valve to remote the control. With dual sticks the standard ZAC fuel valves were unusable. Best regards, Bill of Georgia

I wouldn't say unusable. Though I did have to replace one of the inputs (right I think) with banjo connector.

Hello group ,thanks for all the good information I received on the fuel systems .I have a problem believing the fuel will run uphill from the tank outlets to the fuel valve located on the console .I should not dispute the plans as they have been good so far .Is this an illusion or will the fuel flow from the lower level to the higher level .I know I saw a post awhile back where the builder did not want the fuel to be pressurized inside the plane .I like the idea of the fuel pumps being located at the tank outlets as suggested by Charles ,any comments on this . Thanks

Wade,
I just did not want fuel in the cabin under pressure. Thus, the dual fuel pumps on the engine side of the firewall. Since this is not a gravity system, the fuel doesn't have to "run" up hill to the fuel selector. It is "pulled" there by the suction from the pump. I have had no problem with fuel flow using this system.

I dont recall ever seeing a low wing (Piper) with fuel under pressure. Just an engine driven pump (suck) with a boost pump (electric) suck..
Geeze, now I m thinking of high school.....

Hi Wade,
I too was a little worried about the fuel going up hill, so I did a little test.
I hooked up a couple of feet of fuel line and powered an electric fuel pump (Facet). The fuel was in a container a couple of feet below the pump, and it had no problem priming itself and pumping away..
I don't have any pressure in the fuel line that goes through the cabin. The electric and engine pumps are both in the engine compartment. That means a break in the fuel line integrity will result in air going to the engine instead of fuel but no big puddle of fuel in the cabin.
I intend to operate primarily with avgas rather than auto fuel, so I am not concerned with vapor lock in the fuel line. Even if there is some vapor, the test shows I can still pump fuel to the engine. With the wing tanks mostly above the cabin floor the only high points in the whole fuel system are the loop going to the tank selector and the engine itself. I would guess the total height in the worst variation of fuel tank level is only a few inches from inlet to final destination.
Best regards,
Paul

Gig, Let me re phrase "unusable." For a short armed fat man near 60 in a semi prone position flying a plane with very sensitive and responsive elevator control bending over to touch a control brass valve at the passengers heels, sight unseen, is not only unsafe, but unnecessary and "untenable" especially with the dual stick cross bar and linking rods in the way. Built yours anyway you want, but never forget John Denver. Best of luck, Bill of Georgia
P.S. I flew my XL last night in the cold night air and it was great!

They aren't the best photos in the world but this is how I installed the Facet pumps in the wingroots near the tanks. In this location the pumps can pressurize the entire line, prime the entire line, make fule flow uphill, etc. No worries about auto gas vaporizing on a hot day at altitude.
