I realise this has been discussed before – but I am interested in any current testing / research / sound advice re the use of dark colo(u)rs on the Lightning. I note that the Cirrus Ad in the Loop Magazine covering this year’s Oshkosh shows nearly all models with a very dark red upper fuse. Is their composite construction significantly different to the Lightning? (in terms of being heat sensitive). We are keen to paint our Lightning with a dark upper fuse (close to the Cirrus current style) but as always – would like verification (preferably research based) of the implications.

A motoring organisation in Australia measured surface temps on cars (metal) for different roof colours – and they found some difference when the car was in direct sunlight (perhaps 20%) – but most interestingly, that any colour other than white (including silver & light yellow) lifted the surface temperature to about the same level as any of the really dark colours. Is a 20% increase significant?

Bearing in mind that we don’t live in Minnesota - and that the summer day temps at ground level in Perth regularly reach 100F and sometimes reach over 115F.

All info appreciated!
