Anyone ever heard of anyone getting an instrument ticket in a '52?

If the examiner agrees to do it and the airplane is so equipped and current
pitot static, xpnder etc, it is legal. We have done a commercial rating. The
examiners (designees) are just excited to fly in the Yak. This is why they
would agree to it. Do it with the canopy open in actual. How cool would that
be. Issue goggles to him and a scarf. Then you should write an article on
the check ride.

I guess if you have the needed radio's for the flight check, you could do it. But because of the almost neutral stability of the 52, you'd be spending a whole lot of time just flying the airplane. I believe you'd find the work load pretty high. Years ago I got a instrument rating in a helicopter ( a 206A without SAS). It was not fun! The examiner had to hold and flip charts for me. With every frequency change I had to make on the radios, was followed by having to recover from an unusual attitude. The B-24 is much the same. One pilot is doing nothing but flying while the other does all the radios, com. chart flipping and reading.
During instrument flight a pilot is not only concern with keeping the airplane upright, but managing the flight. Reading the charts, approach plates, setting up radios, dealing with ATC, etc. The stability of the aircraft has a significant effect on the work load. I just don't think the 52 was one - built for that, and 2 - would make a good trainer.
Good luck on your endeavor!

Pappy,
It sounds like an instrument check in the back seat of an A-4, except at less than half the airspeed, a third less room, oily salt encrusted Nomex gloves, crummy lighting, doing point to points on a TACAN that liked to do 40 degree lockoffs, an air conditioner spitting snowballs on a humid South Texas day, and an O2 mask and hose in the way! Ah... the good old days. Makes me homesick for a Scooter! : )
