OK I know I have probably done the bad deed, but I used a combination of masking tape and duct tape to retain the plastic sheet on my windows while I was doing some body work. You probably already know that the duct tape left globs of adhesive behind when I tried removing it. Is there a product I can use to remove the adhesive safely without destroying my windows and windshield. The duct tape has been on the windows for almost a year.

Thanks...Greg

Isopropyl alcohol, high purity, 90% or better.

If denatured alcohol doesn't work get a plexiglass cleaner C it has some form of petroleum distilates that microscopically clean craze lines from the plexi glass and it might also remove the duct tape adhessive.

I have had no problems using the denatured alcohol C but maybe others can chime in.

I would avoid denatured alcohol, as it contains methanol. Either
Isopropyl or as Tim suggested, kerosene are safe for plexi.

Okay C it has been quite a number of years since my organic chemistry days C but indeed denatured alcohol may have methanol added to the ethanol so that it cannot be easily converted to drinkable ethanol C but basically methanol is just a primary alcohol containing only one carbon atom C four hydrogen and one oxygen. Isopropyl alcohol has three carbon atoms C eight hydrogens and one oxygen. Isopropyl comes in different purities C some with higher water concentrations than others. One more distilled then other.
I would think that ethanol C denatured alcohol C or high or low grade isopropyl would all be safe for plexi...at least that has been my experience with my RV 10 C all my RC airplanes and the plastic canopies on my Ravell and Monogram plastic models as a kid. Has someone had a bad experience with methanol C not to be confused with methane...your spouse's gas after that rich dinner.
Thanks for bringing me back to my organic chemistry atom model building days in undergrad.
Now I just build teeth and planes C what ever happened to all that knowledge I once had...so sad!

A product I have used is 5 star Brand Wax & Grease Remover #5900. I bought it from an Auto Quest's paint shop. It was recommended to me by an A&P when I had some old paint over spray to remove from a Cessna 150 window. Not sure what it is other than being petroleum based. Probably just a good grade of kerosene C like Tim recommended.
