Since there is a single wire to from the unit (for rpm) I would
think it is impossible to show the rpm on both mags as well as
individually during a mag check. I can connect to the P-lead of
either mag and get an indication but it is only for that mag of
course.

If you get a different reading from two mags, both of which are
connected to the same camshaft, you're not measuring RPM, you're
checking for a bad mag. You could put a double throw switch in the
line.
