Just a few comments on old fuel. I have a 912UL that will use according to Rotax, 87 oct fuel (regular car gas) I keep it in a 33 gal bowser and was using it in my engine this summer. On three occasions I had dieseling on shutdown (enough that I did the oil purge procedure on one occasion) I called Lockwood tech and they told me that they have never heard of an engine running backward at shutdown. I guess I was the only one in the country to have this problem. Anyway after doing the lifter check I switched to 93 (premium)auto fuel. I never had the problem again.
I am attributing the problem to old gas and octane loss due to evaporation. The gas was not that old either (maybe a month) I am now back to regular auto fuel and I add Stabil to it as a matter of course. In the hot summer months I will go back to premium fuel.
