Silk screen! I used the same vendor as Tim O. and it worked great. You'll see a lot of pictures on his site so I won't take up bandwidth with more. I also posted an "after action" report on here that you should be able to find with a search, but here are a few highlights.
- cost is nominal for a screen to be made. exact cost depends on type of frame and size. My recollection is that a couple years ago it was around $35 with an aluminum frame.
- you can email a variety of formats to the vendor and have the screen back in a week. I used .pdf since he couldn't deal with Visio.
- print the file to overhead viewfoils, cut apart and tape on to panel for test fitting. this allows you to "test drive" before commiting to a screen.
- you can use just about any type of ink including the $1 per bottle stuff if you clear coat. I went with an epoxy based ink (same stuff Tim used but in black) which is tough as nails when cured.
- if you purchase the solvent recommended for the type of ink it's really easy to just wipe off and try again if you aren't happy with the results.

I took my panel down to the local trophy engraving shop, set it up and had the nice lady look at what I was doing, I had the whole thing thought out and she made nice engraved labels for everything, scaled them to fit and it took about an hour. She gave me a bill for 75 bucks and I paid that and added a 50 dollar tip.. I considered it a great buy for a plane that costs tens of thousands of dollars..
