All-
Every solenoid mount I've seen has been with the unit perpendicular to the line of flight. Is there anything wrong with mounting it on it's back?

No, it should work fine in any orientation.

Good. Couldn't understand why people would add the weight of a bracket to keep them upright, as many did.
