I installed the VDO oil pressure sender when the Honeywell unit failed (and screwed up the Dynon D-180 'big time' and flew this morning (14-degrees F, but Reif heater and a space heater brought oil up to 100-degrees F in an hour) ... the remote sensor gave oil pressure readings that were rock solid, and the suggestion of dripping oil into the line from the 912's port over to the firewall-mounted sensor worked just fine..thanks, Roger.

Bump on the topic of Oil Pressure Sender, there are a few threads on this, I chose this one.
Have a Rotax 912 UL running the Standard VDO Oil Pressure Sender 360-004, or 29/12 stamping on the hex along w/ a date of mfg of August 2009. This would be a sub 100 hour failure...
W/ a MGL E-1 engine system, I started getting high (100+) and Low (20 ish) oil pressure indications w/ an engine at normal temps.
My background says high oil pressure and then low can mean a failing bearing. I didn't enjoy that experience at all. Knowing that the pressure sender is a high fail item, I just watched the oil temps, kept a feel for any roughness, and finished the flight.
Since then, (edit) I've reinstalled the sender w/ a grounding wire added from a ring terminal (at) the threads end of the sender. Too late to do a run up check, so will report afterwards... Report= the grounding wire did the trick. Normal function.
Checked and cleaned the connections- sender, 1 wire to distro block for MGL, and wire from block to the instrument. All fine.
Got a $15 direct gauge at car parts store, installed (15 minutes) and held breath through a full ground run- all normal. (Old ball pressure regulator, 1994 era 4,152,xxx serial number). Yeah! No overhaul needed today.
Found these ohm values today on the net:

In my search for info while overcoming the fluctuating oil pressure problems, I managed to obtain the correct resistance readings for the VDO sensor at various pressures. In case they may be of use to others in their trouble shooting I repeat them here.
VDO 0 - 10 bar oil pressure sensor, Bar psi Resistance (Ohm's)
0 = 0 = 7.2
0.5 = 7 = 18.2
1 = 14.5 = 28.2
1.5 = 21.75 = 39.2
2 = 29 = 49.2
3 = 43.5 = 68.2
4 = 58 = 87.2
5 = 72.5 = 104.2
6 = 87 = 121.2
7 = 101.5 = 137.2
8 = 116 = 153.2
8.5 = 123 = 160.2
9 = 130.5 = 167.2
10 = 145 = 181.2
Cobbled a set of fittings together to my air compressor and rang out the sender from 0 to 8 Bar, all good. Looks like the sender I just ordered for $35 will be my spare.
I'll re-install the old sender and add an extra ground ring to a good common ground and see if it was a ground issue all along.
You will find guidance to use no thread sealant, threadlocker 243 or thread sealant in different places...
I also now have a way to check if the new sender is good when it arrives.
New sender arrived, checked ok, it's now a spare. The grounding wire addition has fixed the sender from August 2009 w/ less than 100 hours on it...
Hope this helps someone out!
