Has anyone set up their 801 as a trainer or with dual sticks and throttle in the middle?

I was going to set mine up with dual sticks, until I got the cockpit
assembled. Then I sat in the plane with the stock Y-stick in place
and changed my mind. It really feels comfortable. And I can easily
hold the stick with one hand and reach the radio stack with no
problems with the other. So for simplicity I decided to go with the
Y-Stick.

Still debating about a dual throttle setup or not.

Regards,
Jeff

I was leaning towards two sticks until I test-flew the 750. I found the Y-stick
to be completely natural and comfortable, with the following advantages:

lightweight
simplicity
ease of getting in and out
improved crashworthiness
Ken Ryan
750 ordered and due to arrive soon!

No doubt the stock stick is easy to use. But it really limits right seat flying.
I like the controls in the middle. The CH601 has dual sticks and I'm considering a similar setup to convert the 801. I'm flying and having fun but there's always a new upgrade around the corner. Next up Cargo Pod!

Dan,
I put duel sticks in our 801 and love it. With some minor changes you can use the sticks from a 601 kit.

My only concerns about the center stick is that my arm will cramp on long flights and that it may make reaching to the center or right on the panel cumbersome. I am considering a flip down arm rest for the 701 for the arm cramp possability.

Based on my one test flight of the 750, I don't think arm cramp will be a
problem. But, if it was, I think it would be easily remedied with a small pillow.

I took my first flight in Cloverdale,CA in a 701 with the "Y" stick. It was as easy to fly from the right seat as it is now in my own 701 from the left seat. With dual throttles (as per plans) it should not be a problem except for the lack of brakes on the right side.

I've put Dual sticks in my 701 (based on the 601 dual option).
I like it a lot. My first few flights ever were in a RAF De Havilland Chipmunk when I was a kid. It was magical. After that a center yoke is not an option for me. I have one central throttle. Friction type from Assco.........Geoff

To those who have done the dual stick mod, do you think it would be difficult to do it after its built? Just in case I don't care for the y stick? Quicker to go with the flow you know.

My dual sticks just attach to the Y-Stick controls. I think I have some
pictures on my site, Larry N1345L, www.skyhawg.com.

Kevin,
One of my favorite designers, Steve Wittman, used a center stick in the
Buttercup, Tailwind, & O&O Special. However , it had a "T" on the top of the
stick that extended to the left to a point centerline to the pilot and then
vertically DOWN a few inches and that was the dualstick. Would be very
easy, cheap and light to make a removable extension to the standard "Y" to
accomplish the same thing. Both sides if you want it. That mod will be on my
aircraft.

Wow! Thanks for that one! Sometimes the obvious is so hard to see!

Thanks John, I'll have to look that one up!

At any rate it sounds as though its not too bad of a retrofit.
