Hello group ,I am need of some electrical help . I have a flap motor from a Bonanza . I am using a DPDT momentary toggle switch all works great for reversing the polarity .When I installed the limit switches all works great until the limit switch was activated ,travel stops as it should .When I activate the toggle switch for reverse action nothing happens due to the open circuit of the limit switch .It works as it should if I just bring it close to the limit switch without tripping it then reverse action works .Is this typical or should reverse action work with the limit switch tripped . I know you don’t have the Zenith flap motor. But did you follow the wiring diagram on page 6B20 of the plans? You need four wires between the flap motor and the DPDT (or some diodes) to make it work.

Ok ,Craig & Jay I think you have helped me .I saw the diagram on 6B20. I had wired the switch using jumper leads as described by Tony Bingelis on page 309 of his sportplane construction techniques and only had two wires between the flap motor and switch .I guess I should remove the jumpers from the switch and run four wires as 6B20 shows . Thanks

You have something wired wrong, each limit switch should interrupt
motion in one direction only. Look carefully at the circuit shown on
page 6-B-20 of the plans. There should be two wires leading to each
side of the motor, one leading to the limit switch and one leading
directly back to the DPDT switch. I think that is most likely where
the error is.

Wade you will also have to reverse the way the drawing shows because unless they revised the DPDT switch diagram it was backwards.

The only mistake I see in the drawing is that it states that the
circuit is shown in the flaps up position but it is actually shown in
the flaps down position. At least it is in my version of the plans. If
you get the motor terminals backward for some reason, it's a simple
matter to reverse them and correct the situation if everything else is
correct.

I actually found the drawing a bit confusing at first because it
showed the up limit switch wired differently than the down limit
switch as far as what was connected to the NC and COM terminals. I
redrew the diagram so that the COM terminal of each switch is wired to
the motor and the NC terminal of each switch is wired back to the DPDT
switch. This doesn't change the electrical function of the circuit in
any way but, with both circuits drawn identically, it makes it easier
to see what's going on and it reduced the clutter in the diagram some
by having fewer lines crossing other lines.
