Craig,
You do this to us every year about this time -- talk about shoveling off sunshine and and how it just sucks to have to use so much sunscreen while keeping your sunglasses on and clean with your canopy back in the perfect 82 degree weather.......
Later, when the wind with the strange names like "BashemdownJoe" or "FloodemoutPatty" come to town and you are wondering where your hangar is today or how many cottonmouths or alligators have found refuge from the flood waters in your GIB's seat, I don't want to hear a whisper about it. I only want to hear positive comments. Something like, "It truly is amazing how quickly the sheets dry down here when they are hung out in the 120 knot breeze!" or "I find that my joints are so much more flexible here in the summer when the AC is off."
Enjoy the respite Lad - the weather Gremlins are coming up on your six.

I too recall craig does this every year - Hal, thanks for the reminder us frozen midwesterners can shovel the snow - I used to live in Louisiana where those named storms hit and I guarantee you can't shovel water. And as for California .. I don't really like it when the earth moves either.Think I'll go turn the heat on in the hanger and clean up the oil on the floor !!

I love that part of the season too. I relish to thought of the wind in my hair and kicking gators and cottonmouths off my ramp. It just plain invigorating to live life on the edge - so to speak. You sort of feel like a old sea captain on the bridge of his brig, sail set, reefed but square, close hauled to wind. What's really nice, is all those liberal Yankees that buy houses on the shore, takeoff like swamp rabbits from a ripple in the water. (BTW the difference between a "Damn Yankee" and just plain "Yankee" is the damn Yankee stay.) Now those AZ lads have a little too much sunshine. Poor devils, the heat kills the power of those supped up M-14s and they still run in those hills. Something about the heat to brain cell ratio, I think.
No guys its best down here in Florida year round. God didn't put hair all over our bodies because he wanted us to be civilized. Not to huddle next to fires wearing furs skins screaming about the pain in our old bones. Best be aviating though blue skies with the canopy back after just being treated to lunch at the airport dinner (which just finished happening :45 ago.)
Naaaaa, You'll never convince me otherwise.

Craig:
Go ahead and try to rub it in....After 10 year in that God-forsaken state, I am happy to be in North Carolina. Twenty hurricanes, $80K in damage during Wilma, living life packing hurricane supplies, starting up the generator for when the wind blew, living around pushy, rude people, sweating my butt off at 10 pm in the summer when the temp was 85 and the humidity was 90%, etc, etc....I'll pass.
Let's see Saturday, it was 32 in bright sunshine at 8 am. Went up to mid 50s by noon. Was flying CAP 182. Climb in the cold air was about 1200 fpm and had nearly 60 miles of vis. High temps in the 50s to 70s all week here. Haven't thought about hurricanes nor had to deal with rude folks. No billboards along the interstates, trees outnumber houses, should I go on.
I have to admit, the weather in Florida between November and April was great. However, waiting 1-2 hours to get in a restaurant because all the snowbirds, made that season not as much fun either.
I'll take NC any day of the year.
Merry Christmas!!
Craig

I am chagrined, yes we can have really nasty weather down here in Paradise and those cottonmouths & gators are for real. However, it's the nasty little flying things that crave human flesh that I worry about. The Summer heat can be intense.
Take Today, for example; I had to follow my summer routine because of the heat: Up early and out to the airport, knock for lunch at the airport sandwich shop, back to the hanger until my T-shirt is damp with sweat. Home early for a shower and a nap. Wake up for happy hour and out to dinner early for Seniors Special $5.99 dinner with $1.50 Long Necks. Later, there is a Christmas Parade; my chairs are already in place. Then maybe back to the airport with the Night Shift airport bums and knock down some cool ones while sitting in front of a big fan.
But, I can't stay out too late, have an 8:30am briefing for formation practice with Ye Mystic AirKrewe of Tampa. Gotta go now, something on the News about snow and ice from Seattle to New York. Supposed to last all week. How do you guys handle it?
