Trying to decipher which hinge material to use in fabricating the hinges which are mounter to the firewall flange. The plans call for 1/8" material. Does that specification mean the pin size C the inner hole diameter or what?

I am guessing it is the larger C heavy duty steel stuff with the large pin. Is this correct?
Thanks C

John,
You are correct, it is the heavy hinges. Pay close attention to the plans (they are all different) and be sure to mark them so they go back easier. Do not use the hinge material on the bottom of the cowl as the plans call out. There is too much stress there and the hinge eyelets will break after a few dozen hours. Use .063 plate and screws or similar. See Tim's web site to see how he did them.

They broke on my RV-6 too.

John, also note that although you use the stainless steel hinges,
the hinge pins are NOT the same pins that come with them if I
remember right. Those pins would be too thick to do the curvatures.
It's pretty slick once you get it all together.

Thanks Tim for the heads up.

I was looking at your picture and I noticed that the pictures showed material thicknesses but in the time I was looking I didn't see the written description for why the spacer material was different for these lower backing plates vs what is used on the hinges. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong area as the pictures where under the discription for the top cowl.  I'll be looking later in the day when I have some time.
