I have been very busy working and have not written much. I thought this picture might interest those who believe that the definition of word Headwind is the wind that blows from your destination.
On my trip to Las cruces, NM this past week, I encountered headwinds that i have never seen before. If you look closely, you will notice 72 knot winds coming from 232 deg and 65 knot headwind component! I crawled for the the last 30 min of the flight. On this trip, typical winds at 12K ft. were consistently over 50 knots.
Happy flying!

During the holidays, I decided to fly beyond the Mississippi all the way to the west coast. I flew from Quakertown, PA to San Diego, CA (Carlsbad) and back. The normal 145KT Cardinal RG saw ground speeds of 90-100 KT during the westbound legs over Texas, and New Mexico. The weather gods were karmic on the return trip however as I saw ground speeds of 202KTs for brief periods and 190KTs for extended periods--19 hours west bound, slightly over 14 hours eastbound.

Legs were:
Quakertown, PA - Knoxville, TN
Knoxville, PA - Pine Brook, AR
Pine Brook, AR - Wichita Falls, TX
Wichita Falls, TX - El Paso, TX
El Paso, TX - Demming, NM
Demming, NM - San Diego (Carlsbad) CA.

San Diego (Carlsbad) CA - Grand Canyon, AZ - Gallup, NM
Gallup, NM - Wichita, KS
Wichita, KS - Sidney, OH
Sidney, OH - Quakertown, PA
