I hit the jackpot weather wise yesterday for a WI winter. The sky was sunny, the wind under 10 and right down the runway, the temp was about 15, and both the plane and pilot were ready. With just one person on board these planes fairly leap into the air and the acceleration is exciting. I thought there might be an issue with the airspeed indicator so the plan was to accelerate to 40 and check if the ASI was alive. The plane blew past 40 and was flying before I could check to see if the ASI was working. It wasn't. With no ASI there was no need for any slow flight so I kept the power up to help break in the engine. I made lazy circles near the airport and after about 35 minutes made an uneventful landing. The plane seemed well rigged and flew ball centered. I've fixed a few minor glitches and am ready to go again--as soon as the 6-8" snow storm passes through tonight.
For those of you who are still building, there is an end to it and when that end comes there is a huge smile that is still with me a day later.

Sheldon, that is totally awesome!! So you flew on 1/2/09, correct?
I'll try to find a good weather day and maybe come fly with you
while you're boring holes in the sky. Maybe I can get some good
photos for you with a snowy background. Good luck with it
all!

Tim,
Thanks for the note. I sure would like to get an air to air shot of
my plane. I need to get a few more hours in it to get comfortable
leaving the immediate area. Right now I am trying to operate off of
dry runways. Snowy runways were always an issue for my Long-EZ
although I did use them. The plane seems to be working fine an I am
still smiling.
