It is time to rebuild my Bing carbs for my 912 UL.
Should I just order the kit and do it myself,
or should I send it to some shops, in this case what do you recomend?

Thank You

Silvano:

If your plane is an E-LSA and you are trained by Rotax, you can do the inspection and re-build yourself. If your plane is a S-LSA you cannot do the work yourself.

Silvano,
Reason I asked is that I run a 912UL and other than lubricating the throttle
and choke shafts and cleaning out the float chambers I've needed to do
nothing else. Engine runs smooth and sweet from idle to full power.
IMOO, when running well, leave "well" alone.

Silvano,
You should order a Bing Carburettors Aircraft Tuning and Parts Manual
from BING
at 800-309-2464 and do the rebuild yourself. The task is not daunting
and akin to changing
out a tire. I'd not hire a mechanic to do such a routine task. The
manual is all you need
unless you've never held a screwdriver before.

Hi Silvano,

"other than lubricating the throttle and choke shafts"

Does Rotax or Bing recommend lubricating the throttle and choke shafts of
Bing type 64 carbs?

What lubricant do you use?

Thx.

Engine oil. I've had "Bing" carbs ever since my Triumph TR3. No big deal.

I think your Healey 3000 got shrunk... Beautiful machine!

Are the wheels original?

Side draft SUs were a little more complex than they look at first glimpse. Once set up I liked ‘em.

If you think setting up two of them is hard, try setting three of them in sync in an E Type!

To do it right you have to have the carb balancer.... but you will be surprised how close you can come with an old stethoscope.

Recommended rebuild is at 200 hrs. The kit is about $214. Parts wear whether you notice it or not. It is not hard, but you should talk to someone with experience first if you have never done it. There are a couple of things unique to the Bing. Doing it right the first time, not doing something wrong can save you a lot of heart ache and having to redo it again. They absolutely will need to have a mechanical and pneumatic balance when they are re-installed. The right way is cheaper, easier and takes less time in the long run. Trust me I have seen and rebuilt the "wrong way' ones enough.
The people who never do a rebuild don't do themselves any favors in the long run.
If you absolutely won't do it at 200 hrs. then at 300 or 400 hrs. The parts do wear!

If you just don't want to do it yourself then I'll do them for $50 plus the rebuild kit. One day turn around.

Thanks for your kind replies on my Tr3B.( I also have a "cherry " TR3A and a Stag) The wheels are Panasports and were offered as an option. And as you said the SU carbs are very close in function to the Bings. When I went through Rotax school at Lockwood we tore down the Bing carb and reassembled it. The Bing has more parts but its function is almost identical to the SU so it was easy to correlate.

Roger,

Are the prices you quoted per carb or for the pair? Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

The price for the rebuild kit ($214) is for the pair and my price ($50) is for the pair.
