I have a circa 2001 kit that I'm building. It has the older flat side doors with metal sides and upper window.

I've seen a few doors like this that were "bubbled." I was wondering if anyone had any plans or ideas about how to form a bubble door out of the older style?

I think Skyshop used to supply a door like this, but I understand they don't sell to zenith builders any longer.

Any comments/ideas appreciated.

Hi Tommy:
I would go ahead and get the new bubble doors. I was going to paint the bottom half of my bubble doors so they would look more like the other airplanes out there. I am so glad I didn't. Half the time, I am looking down through the bottom of the doors. Such great visibility. Can see so much more!
Expensive, but well worth it.

Tommy

I had the "curved, lexan doors" in my 701----completed in 1997 (not the
"new" bubble doors). I loved the view with the full length Lexan doors. I
did have a "hinged window" in the upper part of the door. The door window
was about 6" wide and could be opened in flight.

At the time these window plans were available from Zenair. The page is
titled: WINDOW OPTION, but does not have a number.

This feature was very nice of warm days. It increased the ventilation,
added elbow room.

Hello Tommy,

We did that in our 701... We got the idea then, from a photo in internet of a 701 from Shyshop, we did not made any drawing or anything, dont remeber very well but we just bent the middle tube and formed the doors over it. No big mod, I think...

I remember first making a fake middle tube with "cheap" aluminum tube, we sit in the cabin and bent the tube to have about 1" tolerance over our arms, then checked if the lexan and the aluminum sheet suplied (previus to cut fit) will tolerate it. Then worked from that. The resulting cabin is plenty wide, we have taken some pretty "wide" passengers without problem.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tommy,

I found this through the wayback internet archives, it is a sample from the late 90s Zenith website.

I have to say that I get a lot more out of this list than I contribute.

Thanks to all.

I have a czaw 701 and am in the process of updating to the latest Zenith Bubble doors. I have available a pair of czaw original doors and a pair of Dannys Skyshop bubble doors. The wife says get rid of the superfluous doors or modify the 701 to a six door version. Contact me if interested.

Ok, here is my version of the old style door.
Maybe ugly but I don't like the totally clear bottom on the bubble ones, And this could allow for a sliding window and an elbow rest.
