In one of my recent trips to USA, I bought one (Best Buy or similar store, cant remember, I try to visit as much stores as I can).
The brand of the recorder is RCA Digital Voice Recorder the model is RP5022B uses 2 AAA batteries. The good things I have found for my use (in flight) are: light and small (about the size of a cel phone) and also that the recordings can be saved to the computer though a USB cable. I put in in my shirt pocket with a tiny micro about the size of a 1/4" nut (same store) inside my headset, records both, what I say and what I hear.
Also has two "quality" of recording settings, like the digital cameras, the better the recording; the bigger the archives, the less rec minutes. In good Q. has about 5 hrs. (good enough time for any flight), if the VOX is correct set, a 2 hrs flight, no passenger chatting will take a few minutes of radio conversation with tours, plus a few personal comments to record for latter (engine temp in climb out, etc).
Batteries last for about 2 months, (I use it for work also, when no pen and paper ready).
The best thing was that it cost about $20.00 Dlls.
I think that there has to be more brands with similar futures. Or better newer models...
Was a good buy for me.
Hope this helps, and good luck in your testing.
Saludos
Gary Gower.

EAA Mag "Sport Pilot" has an article about just
this subject. They recommend a lapel mic stuffed into one
of the headset earpeices. Any camcorder will have the input
slot for the mic jack.
