An EAA buddy of mine, we met working at the Arlington
flyin 5 years ago, spent December in New Zealand.
He was fortunate enough to fly in a number of airplanes.
He took aerobatic lessons in a Robin. Chris Heintz
designed the Robin HR200 in the 70's.

As my friend remarked, you can see the 601 in the Robin.
I posted the picture he took,

and a high res one if you want details:

P.S. pre LSA, built in 2003 (May - December) in 1077.5 hours

It was displayed at the Arlington Airshow in 2004 at the
main EAA tent as an example of a plane that could meet
the proposed LSA reg - at Zenair's request.

I really like that sliding canopy.
Wonder why a sliding canopy isn't an option on the 650...?
I bet Zenith would sell more 650's if a slider was an option....

the entire XL concept makes it very difficult to do a slider. The fuselage is not even close to parallel in the zone where the tracks would be located. While that is not a killer in and of itself, a successful installation would require a canopy/frame that is flexible enough to change width in one direction at the forward bow while simultaneously changing width in the opposite direction at the aft bow.
Other mechanisms are out there but the structure would also have to be modofied to maintain integrity due to the "kick" in the upper longerons in particular if the cabin sides were made parallel.
