Pat,
I did use Lowell,s gear. He made my "retro" elevator trim system. He told me that he was designing a "bush" gear and I asked him to send me the drawings. He did that along with pictures of the mock up on the 4 he is building. I loved the appearance and as an old friend told me "if it looks good it will fly good". I had to have it so I told him I would be one of his first customers.
A saving grace for me is that highwingllc now takes PayPal and I have sold a bunch of stuff on EBAY and had a surplus so that I could buy the gear without using the family account. It was painless! I also figured that once people see this gear they will want it so I would have to wait in line and Lowell is only one man doing this as a retirement hobby, I think. So I jumped! (He sent me a picture of all the jigs he made for my gear so I am sure production would go faster)
Also Pat, the original gear is worth some money on EBAY and I am sure with the accidents that have happened with the original gear,I will be able to recover a portion of my investment in this gear. I certainly don't mean to demean the original gear as it is a stout unit but there have been side load breakages, bungee breakages, etc.
The Grove gear was certainly a very good option but it was too expensive and too heavy for me. Besides I like the classic, antique look (kind of like a Monocoupe which I use to fly) and if you can loose 4 lbs in the process...wellll
John McBean also has a "bush gear" and if it's anything like the other parts I have ordered from him, I am sure it is first class!
Can't wait to get the gear fairings on! It will sure make the gear look complete and maybe add a mph or two. I finally found a matching spray can of paint so that will solve my paint problem. Should get them on today I hope.
Please excuse my passion for my airplane but I absolutely love this hobby! I work on my plane pretty much everyday. I am retired, have a hanger on a grass strip, listen to smooth jazz music (in the land of "help me make it through the night"---puke)! Thank God for Sirius !!! I have coffee with my friends, airport bum, drink beer in the afternoon. What every pilot wants ... right. I might not last long before I croak but might as well go out in style.
Anyone have a mud flap kit to install on the Kitfox? It would go great down here!

Dick C I was Lowell's 1st electric trim kit customer. I know you were his 1st electric trim kit installed customer. Lowell is top drawer to deal with. I guess I'll e-mail him and see price and delivery on the bush gear. Your report makes the gear sound like it really improves handleing on the ground. I don't like the looks of the Grove gear either. It definitely is a good gear C but My KF is a low and slow "bush" plane C a poor man"s Super Cub. And C I want it to look like one. The KF looks good with bush gear or stock gear with wheel pants. Did Lowell supply the fairings? I have a Wittman W10 Tailwind that needs some TLC that I hope to learn to fly for a get up and go plane.
