I agree with whoever it was that said you ought to call Zenith. I had a problem in the HS mount area and because it is such a critical area, and there is a history of failure there, I called them and they were most accomodating in evaluating the fix I proposed. They requested pics of the problem and spent a little time looking at it, then got right back to me with an email oking what I wanted to do, which I still have a copy of. Very helpful folks on that problem. I feel like that is an area us shadetree folks ought to have the pros look at, if there is any doubt at all.
Good luck
Joe

Joe,

Since quite a few others might be in the same situation, do you think it might be helpful to other builders to post the response that Zenith sent you.

Bob

I called Zenith a few days ago and their answer was the one I was expecting: Open up the stabilizer and move the mounts out. Since the existing holes need to be filled, the mounts may need to be moved out slightly more than 10mm so the radius clears the rivet heads and shim slightly between the two mounts.

Thanks,
John Marzulli

You say the holes need to be filled with rivets?  Why would an unfilled hole be less desirable than a filled hole?  I can't believe that it would cause a higher stress concentration C and it's covered with the H.S. skin C so it is not aesthetic.  Just wondering.

Yes C that was what I was thinking as well.  Did Zenith say you needed to fill the holes for strength?

Well C I guess now that I am thinking about it C a filled hole would be stronger in compression.
I guess it's just something I never really thought about until now.
