Oh, yeah, this was the one with the gear supposedly in the wrong
place....and looks like it still is. I wonder just how big that
battery is in the tail?
And how would going to this gear without changing locations....if
indeed it IS in the wrong location...change things?

Lynn,
I assure you my gear is not mounted in the wrong place. The gear leg is pretty much identical in build and shape to the original Kitfox leg I took off. The wheel is in the same position it's just a foot further out toward the wing tip so I have to stretch to put my foot on it to get in the aircraft. I am a short guy. The gear weight is just 4 lbs lighter and the spread 2 ft wider. I now have a 6 ft spread vs the original 4 ft (actually 7 ft if you measure to the outside of the "kingfox" tires)
I am not too worried about weight and balance as the 4 lbs difference will equal the 4 lbs of stuff I put in the panel!
I am waiting for the polyflow fittings to arrive from Spruce so I can extend the brake lines.
Yesterday I installed the "visible reservoir" thick plastic brake fluid reservoir that I obtained a while back. Now I will be able to see how much fluid is in the reservoir. This will be useful when back bleeding for fill purposes. No more running over the top!
I am having a time painting the gear leg fairings! Call me the "orange peel" king. I am using Poly Tone and have tried both methods (primer dry and spraying a mist coat onto drying primer) nothing seems to work. I might have to break down and order a quart of enamel from Spruce (so expensive for a small amount) I will give it another shot today.

Dick, I have no doubt that yours is in the right place...re-read my
post. It was in response to Noel, who was responding to Francisco,
whose plane was the subject of much discussion a few weeks back, when
he sent pictures of his plane which looked like he had the gear in
the wrong place.
In looking at your pictures just now, it looks like they no longer
put the front float brackets on the fuselage...yours has 3 on each
side, as does Francisco's, while mine has 4.
I too have one of those visible reservoirs...I bought it at Oshkosh 2
1/2 years ago....some things just take a little longer to get
installed....mine isn't yet! : )

How does the Highwing LLC bush gear compare in price to the kitfox?
I sent a message to Kitfox about their bush gear, but have yet to hear anything from them. Fransico, can you give any info? Weight, what comes in the kit, etc.

Dick,
Have you considered having a quart custom mixed at your local NAPA or other auto store that sells automotive paints? I had it done for my first Kitfox to paint all the fiberglass parts, had 3 colors custom tinted, turned out great and the cost was very reasonable.

I think there is a good weight saving on this gear. I agree it still looks
too far forward but hard to tell as the last pic is of the old gear. Moving
the battery back could make a big difference. Depending on just how heavy
the battery is.

I just had another look at your pictures, Dick, and I think I do see

I hope everyone is keeping up with this thread, as it involves two
different airplanes and two different situations....it's too bad that
they got lumped into one subject title. Dick, with the Model IV, who
just changed his gear, and Francisco, who just did a W&B calculation
after (?) adding 11 lbs of battery in the tail, and now that I look
again, I see the change in gear style...I thought the bush gear was
there all along. We need two separate titles for these two planes.
I know for sure that I'm confused!

I ran the numbers and they look right to me. Now the CG envelope for
the Model IV (mine) is about 10" to about 16" (I don't have the
sheets here right now), so if this is what your airplanes' CG
envelope is, you seem to be in the "front-heavy" end of the envelope,
which is better than being in the "tail-heavy" end of things.
Did you add the 11 lbs, then do the W&B? And did you level the
plane to the bottom door, or whatever level is called for?

What is your weight and the arm of your seat. Also how much fuel can you carry and the arm of your tanks.
It looks like it’s getting better. 883 is a heavy plane. Compared to my 511 lb. mod II.

Wow Pat, why don't you get a little mad about it.
The website doesn't have a phone number or address that is easily viewed. Best I could originally do was to send an e-mail by commenting on a video. As it turns out, it will show a phone number if you act like you are ordering one of the other items.

Lynn And Dick C Where do you get the visable reservoir? I thought it was odd that you can't check brake fluid level on the stock system.
