Also another advise:
Even if you dont want a "show type" of airplane, try always to keep clean at least, before every flight:
The Leading edge area of the wings,
The windshield
The propeller, checking for kinks, and
The engine area, to find early cracks in the engine mout and any oil leak starting in the engine.
Also washing and waxing yourself the airplane will give you the best preflight of the fuselage, you can see and feel possible rivets that get loose, kinks in the fuselage, cracks in any support, loosen nuts, etc.
