<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Wow! Avgas in Lake Havasu is now $2.75 per gallon! What a deal.
Yes, it was another great day in Southern Arizona. And, another great flight to Havasu....except for the 29 mph headwind from Buckeye to Havasu. When approaching the Harcuvar Mountains, I descended from 7500' to 6500' in an attempt to find better conditions and was blessed with a 19 mph headwind. Of course, there is a bright side, on the return trip I enjoyed a 32 mph tailwind at 8500'.
By the way, I now have 100.3 hours on my bird.
I've attached three photos. The first photo is the Nuclear Power Plant Northwest of Buckeye. The second is Parker Dam at the Southern end of Lake Havasu and the third is Lake Havasu looking South after takeoff on runway 32 and turning left crosswind.
Havasu is a nice community with all the modern conveniences where approximately 50,000 people live. Each time I visit, I enjoy it more.
I hope you like the pics. Have a great day.

Mention that you saw that add on Airnav to the linemen at Shelbyvill and you could get it there for $2.84/gallon! Not bad for east of the Mississippi. Brian W.

Guys, can you hold on sharing the fuel prices, you're making me cry.....
In the UK mogas is $6.26 a gallon and Avgas $8.85
The difference in the price of mogas and avgas in the UK is what you pay
for a gallon......
Why are any of you guys on the ground?
What's Mogas a gallon?

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Hey Clive
Here in Tucson, Arizona, Premium Auto Fuel is currently around $2.02 per gallon. Yes, we are spoiled. However, a few months ago, it was almost $4.00 per gallon.
Happy flying.

Wow Gary that's amazing price shift. We went from 80p a litre to 103p
it's back at 92p now.
Your pump price seems to react a lot more than ours, I'd still swap it
though!
Diesel is about 10p more than gas, used to be loads cheaper 10 years ago
but they realised that we were all buying diesel engined cars and would
have to pay whatever they charged.
The 10p extra reflects the 10% better fuel consumption a diesel
typically gets.
In Europe the 'diesel engine' for aircraft was a popular development,
mostly running on Avtur, this was a great wheeze as avtur was 40p a
litre.......then the European Union got involved and for leisure use you
have to pay a surcharge tax that takes it up to the price of diesel so
the advantage has sort of gone. The surcharge you pay yourself as an
'honesty' payment to the tax authorities........that'll be right......
I've been using Mogas for many years as I used to have an Ultralight and
the cans are always in the back of my motor car. The Ethanol has started
to appear though I'm not testing for it personally a lot of folk have
got the alchohol kits. It seems to be in the South and West of the UK
from what I can gather.
Regards, Clive

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Hello again Clive
Fuel cost is a big concern to everyone. I expect the price to increase in the coming months. When our economy improves, I'm certain fuel prices will skyrocket!
As I noted prior, I have been using auto fuel in my airplanes for some time. I am aware of the ethanol additive as well as the claimed potential problems with ethanol, however; I have never had a problem while using it. Furthermore, I have never found water in my fuel samples nor have I had debris in the tanks, (other than debris left from the manufacturing process). Now, it is important to note that I carry a 55 gallon plastic barrel in the back of my truck for fuel. I installed a hand crank pump and 30' fuel hose with a really good filter attached. The filter is a canister type that separates water if there is any.
I believe auto fuel may actually be better for the engine because it does not contain lead. Lead deposits in the combustion chamber can be damaging to an engine. Similar to the debate over which is the best oil to use in an engine, I think it is a matter of preference....whether to use AvGas or auto fuel. Sure, everyone has their own opinion, but that is how I look at it.
Have a great day.

I hope it is the METAL canister type.
A resident of Green Landings had a clear plastic filter on his fuel hose that had a replaceable element. Tho it had given some years of service, when ethanol came along with the Amoco fuel, the plastic got soft and then cracked open. Since it was hooked to an electrically driven pump, there was a period of drama with gasoline being sprayed about the hangar.
My opinion is that careful thought and observation should be given to the components of a fuel system these days, particularly since ethanol can bring a variety of problems. I think hoses, filters and the fuel itself should be carefully inspected frequently.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Hello Doug
No, the hose I use is 1" ID rubber fuel hose. The same hose used at gas stations. As I noted before, the filter is a canister type fuel filter. Looks like a large oil filter. It may also interest you to know that I installed a ground wire to be used when fueling.

Gary, I was also speaking of the 1" fuel hose that was hooked to the sediment bowl/filter. The filter attached to the pump. The filter/bowl is about the size of a liter jar. The pump is the type used on larger agricultural fuel tanks.
I dont know if he uses a ground wire, but he should. It wont take much friction of a cloth on the wing to build up a static charge. That is a good point.

Are you SURE ????
Just because the pump is labeled for Ethanol, it does not mean its in there. The wording is that it MAY contain ethanol. Make a test jar, very cheap and easy, and start testing different brands. Even though all pumps here are also labeled with the ethanol sticker, I have been using BP Premium in my Rotax 912-S and it has never tested positive for ethanol yet. Most of the bigger brands have ethanol in their gas, but the rumor is that some of the brands that are not " Top Tier " don't have to put it in. Test away !!! Good Luck,
Mike
