Ben,

Probably common sense says pay the freight, but I must confess, it sounds like an adventure.. I live in Costa Mesa, CA and have considered the same trip for the rest of my kit. I bought the tail and paid the freight last year. Plus it would give you the opportunity to visit the factory. When we started on the RV-8 several years ago we went to VAN’s and toured the factory. It gives you a sense of connection you might need when you are 90% done with 90% to go. On the other hand, that sure is a long drive.
