For a 4000 miles trip, I would just pay the freight. But, it is just my 2 cents

First of all, wow what a response. Thank you all for your quick advise. I
figure I need to explain my plan in detail. I have an old super-reliable honda
civic wagon. It actually has quite a bit of room. I can lay a 8 foot board in
with room to spare when I take out the passenger seat. I can fit a washer and
dryer in the back and close the hatch.
So the plan was to build a 4x6x12 box and mount it on the roof and put
everything else inside. I'm now wondering if I could put the rolled up
skins on the inside and use one of the smaller u-haul trailers for everything
else that won't fit. Unfortunately I don't have a truck, so I
can't really use the bigger trailers. Some friends have trucks, but
it's hard to ask to borrow someones truck for 4000 miles of driving.
I'm just trying to figure out a way around this. It just seems like the
prices are a more then a little high.
By the way I'm in Twentynine Palms, CA
