Hello Kitfoxers,

Jeff Puls, a long time Kitfox enthusiast and Kitfox List member, died yesterday apparently of natural causes. He was 57. Jeff was extremely instrumental in getting me started with my Series V kit in the summer of 1995. We worked together that summer to finish his beautiful Classic lV and to fly it. Jeff contributed to The List discussions over the years and dearly loved all aspects of flying.

A Columbus Ohio Police Department Lieutenant. when I met him in '95, he was the commander of the Columbus, Ohio Police Helicopter Division. He quickly saw the need to move up from recip. helicopters to turbines and fought to get the first ex-Army OH-58's into the Columbus Police inventory.  Today there are at least 6 new Rockwell turbine ships flying for our city's safety.

A stickler for honesty, detail and safety, when the big day arrived, he refused to take me up in his Classic lV for a spin around the patch until he burned off a few gallons of fuel so that we would be right at, but not an ounce over gross!

Jeff is survived by his wife Donna, also a Columbus Police officer.

That is sad news, John....I recall Jeff posting here, but a search of
my saved mail didn't show up anything with his name on it.

How is your project coming along?

That was sad news. Age 57 is way too early to go West. Our condolences go to his family.

I am sorry to hear that, John. The problem with making friend is that you risk to loose them, one day. Even if they are internet friends, it always hurt. My thoughts are with his family.

Looking at my wife, I think I can imagine how they feel. When I had my cardiac arrest, last summer, I wasn't worried; I just passed out. But for her, it was a terrible moment, during the five minutes they tried to rescucite me in the ambulance.

Death isn't terrible; we don't feel anything. But it is terrible for our loved ones. We all have lost close loved ones at one time or another and we know the pain is always there. I can't understand the evolutionist need for it, but ... it is there all the same.

Meanwhile, I wish I could fly as much as our friend Lynn, right now but ... they say you're old when you have more memories than dreams. Hell, I still have a lot of dreams, just wait and see, mister! Smile

Cheers,
Michel Verheughe

I was building my Kitfox after Jeff finished his and digital camera's had just started to come into use. Several times Jeff took pictures of various details on his Kitfox to answer questions I had posted on "The List". I was amazed at the quality of work he had done and at the technology he used to help me understand the process.

That's why I try to fly as much as I can.....the memories were
starting to catch up to the dreams. I once thought it would be nice
to touch down in all the 48 states (the ones that I don't have to
kiss somebody's a- - to travel to), but I'm starting to think that
Michigan needs my gas money more than the other states (my
rationalization for staying home?), so maybe I should try for all the
airports in Michigan....something like 500 if you count all the
private, non-charted ones.
