All,
My thanks to everyone that took the time and effort to respond to the email about the safety articles in the Lightning newsletter. We actually had very good response numbers with some answering on the list and some writing directly to me. I really do appreciate all of you sharing your thoughts and suggestions. It shows me that you really do care about YOUR newsletter.
The basic question boils down to whether or not the newsletter should include safety information. While most readers agree that Lightning specific safety information would be appropriate, there was basically a 50/50 split on whether we should include generic flight safety articles that would apply to any aircraft. As the upcoming issue of the Lightning newsletter is now being written, I still have not made a final decision on this subject. However, in the upcoming April issue the Other Items and Final Thoughts sections will include two safety type articles that I had already written- one on crosswind landings and one on grass runway operations. Although both articles have some mention of the Lightning and some specific techniques that I use, both articles would probably be helpful to any type of aircraft. You can be the judge as to whether these are worthy of being in the newsletter and send me your thought after the April issue is published.
Now, one other question, which kind of goes back to the newsletter survey I sent out some time ago. There has been a suggestion that the newsletter is too long - saying it is more like a magazine. So I am asking - What are your thoughts on how long the newsletter should be? And if you consider it too long, what type of articles or information presently covered should be totally cut to get it down to that length? Again, any and all suggestions are requested. I need your input to identify what our "target" really is. Other than that, don't forget to renew your subscription.

Buz, as for the size of the newsletter that's entirely your call. Its your time and effort and what you spend doing it. Its really hard for me to put into words how much it is appreciated. I am sure that everyone gets plenty of info from reading it. They may not realize the time involved doing a newsletter. Your flying experience and the ability to put that into words is a gift most people don't have. We are blessed that you do such a good job. So you call the shots on this and just send me the address for the bill.

Brian's comment on the scope of the newsletter is a good one. On the
one hand, we all like to read articles on flying, but on the other
hand, it's a broad mission to accomplish to have the newsletter
include them.
A more narrow newsletter would include just information about the
Lightning that you couldn't get (without special circumstances)
elsewhere:
- How the Lightning flies, what it takes to learn to fly it.
- How it's built, and what it's like to build it, at the factory and
on your own.
- Mods builders have made. Different instrument panels come to mind.
- How to maintain the Lightning, common problems, how to fix them.
- News about the Lightning. How many are being built, where, by whom.
News from Lightning dealers.
Even with a "narrow" focus, there are lots of subjects that are
Lightning-specific.

Buz,
I see no reason to limit the size of the newsletter. Make it as long as you have interesting articles to put in. I'll help cover the extra postage {;<).

Buz,
I too think the number of pages is really up to you. I'm sure the more input you have from all of us helps you minimize TOT. Based on your earlier survey, I thought the content was about right with what you hve been delivering. I read it on-line from page to page, then make a hard copy and carry that month in my car and plane with me. It's gets read several times by me and some of the guys at KPIE. Having put a newsletter together in the past, I know the toughest thing is to get articles submitted from the readers. So we al lneed to help you out with that.
You and Linda Keep up the subperb work.
thanks for all you do.
N82PB now has 33 hours on her working my way to 40.
Hoping to submit another articl soon
