Very sad, this one is a 601HD not an XL though.

It appears he may have been a contributor here. The tail number brought up this name: BURKHOLDER JIMMY C.
The name is not that common and it appears in our archives.

I spoke with Jim at length a week before his accident. His 601HD was a very nice
aircraft and was powered with a Franklin engine. He had apparently refueled at
Live Oak just before the accident which I had heard was from an engine failure.
This was not a structural problem.
I was told of the accident by a good friend of his who knew I had spoken with
Jim a short time earlier. He has an excellent collection of two Corvair autos
and originally had thought of using the Corvair engine in his 601HD but decided
on the Franklin instead.
I hope his recovery is rapid but I know he will always be thinking about his
passenger, a lady who had a short time ago just lost her husband to Cancer. The last I heard was that Jim is recovering from two severely broken legs and possible other injuries.
