After twenty months I finally opened my box of exhaust parts and -oppps - it does not match the drawing on pg FF6-2.................
My Vetterman exhaust manifold has two tail pipes instead of the two manifolds combining into one tailpipe. Is this the new program for the IO540 engine?????
Is there a replacement Pg FF6-2 etc that shows the install of this two pipe system? - Anybody with info or pics????

I just received a brand new Vetterman Exhaust for the IO-540. Haven't even
opened the box, I'll look at it tomorrow, then contact you offline to see if
you need some scanned pages OR, you could just call Larry in Hot Springs,
SD.

This is old news. Van's switched exhaust kits early
on. They never updated the plans. Even my kit that's
been flying for over 3 years now has this Vetterman
exhaust, so most builder pics you will find will
not resemble plans. I'm not sure how many kits were
shipped with the old system, but it was under 170.

From the original group of builders I think Randy was the only one that actually had the one-tailpipe configuration.

Mike, the brackets that support the exhaust to the motor mount are really wimpy... I think I made up an extra set out of stainless. Plus they need to be bent upward to support the exhaust properly.

Talking of old news and old fogeys. My memory came up with Chris Stepp
from American Exhaust who was talking with me when I began talking to
John Forsling on the Barrett project. The desire was a tuned system to
improve on Air/Fuel balance, ported heads for extraction of a few more
ponies than from a more conservatively built Aerosport. Attached are
the First Gen VANS/Vetterman system that the original plans drawn from
(I think for the first 140+ kits). Then Chris sold his unique "One Off
"design to Larry Vetterman who changed it to the Second Gen VANS "now
known as Vetterman" for mass production. Although they did not achieve
the identical exhaust flow that I desired, they did go to the dual
collectors, dual heat muffs, and improved hangar support helped. The
intent was to reduce or eliminate the irritant popping sound that would
intermittently emanate when cutting throttle quickly as the ole four
banger RVs would turn base to final. The reduced exhaust pressure of a
short stack was thought to contribute. Hence today a longer stack to
discharge distance.
At this point it would be wise to tap into the body of ROs (Repeat
Offenders) to mention the rapidity of cracks found in their RV6,RV7 or
RV8 right side exhaust stack mounts from vibration and the inherent
advantage in the use of stainless bracketrage, improved temperature
exhaust nuts and copper loctite. The old-timers that have done a few
Conditionals like Randy, Tim, Doug, Vic, Scott and others can mention if
that pattern is being repeated into their 10s. It would show up about
every 3 to 4 years, sometimes every other.
One of the values of this list is that this IS where the plans updates
are discussed UNOFFICIALLY. You Tim, have been a major contributor to
those improvements to the build community.
Who Got the first Chris Stepp designed dual muff RV-10 exhaust set?
Builder Number Please!

This is working out very well. You must be two steps ahead of me. Everytime I start thinking about how to attack the next project I read your posts on the subject. Keep it up! So what next after the exhaust?
