In reply to Jose’s quest for information on MTV-3 Propellers on Yaks, we are agents for MT, and have sold a lot of these propellers over the years and would make the following points:

Ø   The MTV-3 is the old type of MT aerobatic propeller, based on a McCauley hub. It is rather heavier than the MTV-9 – but this is not really an issue with the Yak-52.
Ø   The MTV-3 is not as good an aerobatic propeller, and is slower to change pitch but again no real issue on a Yak-52, but it is on a Sukhoi.
Ø   The MTV-3 also has a major AD (Number 12D) from 1998 for a crack inspection/replacement of the hub. Most have needed new hubs, so an expensive exercise if it has not been done.
Ø   The -21 is a very old blade profile which was superseded by the -27, and, for the last four years by -29, which gives considerably increased performance.
Ø   We have done a variety of back to back tests; obviously there are a variety of different performance parameters with which to judge different propellers in terms of speed; rate of climb etc. I would say that MTV-3-21 give a 12 to 15% advantage over a V530 2-blade propeller, and this rises to 18 – 20% for a MTV-9-29.
Ø   The MTV3 has a SAE flange, and therefore needs an adaptor to fit onto a Russian flanged engine, which is of course what the vast majority of Yak-52s have.
Ø   More recently, a number of M14P have SAE flanges, and of course, MT now make MTV-9s with Russian flanges.
