Walt,

The case I spoke of was my Dad blowing a prop seal in a T-6...fortunately it was immediately after takeoff, when he reduced to 30"/2000.  It was impressive...looked just like a smoke system. He was coated head to waist with oil on landing. I've been flying the "American Yak" a bit, and spoke yesterday to two "experienced" T-6 drivers...neither had heard of the importance of bringing back the prop control in this case...and not sure anybody in this forum could say they knew?

We can learn a lot about our airplanes from REALLY understanding their systems, and learning from the guys that take them apart and put them together...shared knowledge---as they say---PRICELESS!!!

Jeff;

That was probably a worn out leather piston seal that failed - before the "Little Giant" "O" ring assy.
My only similar experience with the Harvard was forgetting to install the oil tank cap and then doing a slow roll. Amazing how much oil comes out. Not life threatening, just humbling and expensive since I had to buy the beer.
