Has anyone experienced fogging up of your bubble canopy during flight???? Looking at putting a air supply to the front of the canopy to minimize the chance of loosing visibility. Thanks

I've had it fog up on the ground before the engine warms up enough to
make the cabin heater effective. I have a cabin heat system that uses
hot water from the cooling system. It includes two air vents on the
dash to blow heated air on the front of the canopy. I would definitely
recommend including a windshield defogger vent in your cabin heat
system.

Hi Alan,
I've experienced this and probably every other 601 owner has as well.
The one quickest way to clear the canopy of fog
is a microfiber towel. These will not hurt your plexi and are
recommended for cleaning and polishing the canopy. They
are found in rolled packs at Farm and Fleet and can be washed without
loosing their protective qualities.
I keep one on my back shelf for just that fog occasion. It's quicker
than anything.

I'm currently waiting on the FAA for airworthiness inspection so the only fogging I have experienced is while working inside the cabin with the canopy down. In motion, I suspect that the fresh air vents will take care of most or all fogging except for very cool / cold days. If it becomes a problem, my plan is to remove my forward top skin after marking where the canopy touches it. A couple of inches inside that line I will drill a series of 3/8" diameter holes evenly spaced to allow the electronics cooling fan to vent the warmed air up to the bubble in front. I installed a big cpu muffin fan (~ 75 cfpm) in the support from the bottom of the panel to the firewall early on. It keeps the area under the forward top skin from becoming a greenhouse-like heat dome. I figure that warm air can be put to good use as needed later on.

I did some flying this winter with OAT's in the mid to upper 30's and on the ground during taxi is where I experienced canopy fogging. In-flight, I had no problems with the fog clearing up even though I only have the one hole for heat in the lower firewall. I bought a 100W 12VDC portable car de-froster unit that plugs into a cigarette lighter for taxiing. I sit it on top my panel until ready for takeoff when I un-plug and stow it. It is a very light unit and only uses the equivalent power of a landing light. Picture attached.

I have flown for two Wisconsin winters now and many times it's been way
below freezing and sometimes below zero. The canopy does fog up a little
bit (usually on the side, not so much in front) but I open my fresh air
vents (while I taxi and do my run up) and that keeps it to a minimum. Just
before take off I close the fresh air vents and pull on cabin heat and that
takes care of any fog that might have developed. Like Larry has mentioned,
I also carry a microfiber towel, but seldom have to use it. Like David
mentioned, I also purchased a portable car defroster but never had to use
it.

Alan,

The glare shield edging in automotive trunk seal. I actually got mine from Zenith, but I have seen the same thing sold in various on-line dealers like JC Whitney. The anti-glare paint is Rust-o-leum flat black.

Try this for the trim, they also have all metal and all rubber trim. This and the type Dave used, has metal in the U shaped part that covers the sheet AL. This makes it less of a cutting edge, in my way of thinking.
