Folks,

I bought a nice used gascolator a few months back and it has what
appears to be a vacuum fitting on the top. Before I install it I need
to know the options/requirements re: the vacuum line? I.e., can it be
plugged or is it's use necessary for the gascolator to function properly?

Thanks

Vacuum doesn't seem likely... are you sure it's not a primer connection?

I guarantee you I'm not sure of anything. Following is a web address and the second entry down has
a picture of the same setup. Maybe that would give you a hint. I asked the mechanic at Queen City,
where I've been flying out of and he didn't know. He's worked on military jets for years and
now is the first he's worked GA, so the setup may be peculiar to home builts...

That port you refer to a 1/8" NPT hole C isn't it?  If it is C it is the primer port.  If you do not need a primer C you don't need the port.  Plug it.

Gascolaters have such a wide range of engines they're expected to work with.  It's easier to machine the hole C and thread it C than try to create two types of gascolators C those with the hole C and those without.

If you go to www.aircraftspruce.com C and read the descriptions of the gascolators they offer C you'll see the primer port mentioned.

Thanks Dana, Mike, Mike and Jack. KNOWING makes all the difference! Now I can proceed. I had my
Cuyuna shut off inexplicably on my US. Never could find out why, although I think a rebuilt fuel
pump had something to do with it. But the experience kind of makes you sensitive to "unknowns"...
and to the "sound of silence."
