I flew my 601XL down to Barber Airport, OH for the Wings and Wheels fly in
this last Saturday.
The weather was perfect on the way down as unlimited severe clear skies.
Flew over the airport once before I saw it. How I missed the colorful
aircraft on the ground the first time I can't explain. Landed on the 2000
foot sod runway without problems. It was a bit rough due to the
corrigations left by the tractor tire tread marks. Definitely different
from the hard strips that I am used to. Met many really nice people and
builders, had breakfast, and was convinced that the trip was well worth it
due to the enthusiastic crowd that was interested in seeing the plane. I
departed in the afternoon due to Michigan weather not likely to hold up
later in the day. A bit bumpy on the 2 hour trip back. Stopped at SANDUSKY
CO RGNL Airport for fuel and dodged a little rain after that on the way back
I got to try out my ATC Anywhere Map GPS which worked as advertised and kept
me from violating controlled airspace from Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, and
Akron-Canton.
All in all a very nice Saturday adventure.
