Just as a check I noted revs on this evenings flight.
2800 gave 70 mph. 2900 gave 80 mph. controls had stiffened up quite a bit at 80. She is obviously much more comfortable to fly at 70 mph.
Climb out at full throttle at 50 mph showed between 9/10 knots on my vario.

My MK III Xtra also feels really good at 70 MPH which is where I cruise at, 4200 RPM which is about half power. I can push it up to 80 MPH easily enough, but it just does not feel as nice as smooth as it does at 70 MPH. To get that extra 10 MPH takes a lot of extra power and fuel, and is just not worth it to me to get somewhere a few minutes earlier. I don't feel at all bad when I ready about Arty flying across the country at 60 MPH
