I am installing my new 912uls Rotax (100 hp) and am looking for a little advice on the proper fitting to use to transition through the firewall. Do you know if the fitting in the supplied motor fuel line is metric or US? I am not using a gas collator at the firewall.
Thanks

Mike: My rubber fuel line just goes thru the firewall without a
fitting. A rubber grommet protects the line from chaffing.

Hi Klondike,
Would you care to elaborate? Both my 701's have the rubber hose going through the firewall with a grommet in place. I believe this is per the plans.
the fuel shutoff is two feet back.
Just curious.

Tommy: I looked at my fuel line thru the firewall today. After 60
hours there was no sign of wear on the grommet or fuel line. I looked
at the plans, reviewed all of the assembly guidelines for the601, 701,
and 801 (on the Zenith site) and could not find a picture or any mention
of how to install the fuel lines.
I think with frequent inspections, the rubber hose thru the grommet is
ok but there is the possibility of the grommet wearing out and the fuel
line being cut by the sharp firewall. I reviewed HomebuiltHelp's video
on 912 installation tips and they had a picture of the rubber fuel line
coming thru the firewall inside of an electrical conduit connector.
After reviewing this, I came to the conclusion that this would be less
likely to cause a problem so I made the change. It only took me a
couple of hours. This is one area where Zenith could offer some
guidelines in their documents.

Tommy,
For some reason the post due not appear on my email on a regular basis.
I.E. I just noticed the post below attached to this letter.
To penetrate the firewall on my 701 ( I have since sold it) I used a "brass
Barb fitting" from the local hardware store. Used rubber fuel line on both
sides , pushed tight to the firewall, so it couldn't vibrate and clamped the
lines. I think Dan is OK with what he did below. I feel that just a
rubber gromet in the firewall was not enough. Just my opinion. Believe me
, I have the most respect for Chris, But there are several places where
some things can be accomplished a little better.

Hi guys, mine has a fitting from A/C Spruce which passes thru the firewall. Here is the description and part number if you are interested.
GASOLATOR MOUNTING FLANGE 05-00907. It has a barbed fitting installed on each end.
I hope this helps.

That's what I used, with a gascolator in front of the firewall. Although a
rubber gas line through a grommet might be OK, I wanted something more
fireproof and solid so as not to worry about it. Seemed we spend a lot of
time and effort making firewalls fire resistant, running a rubber hose full
of gas through it didn't make sense.

Hello Fritz,
One of Several great thing of the ZAC aircrafts have is betwen all SIMPLICITY. Remember we are not building or flying a certified aircraft. I have 20 years flying ultralight type of airplanes, most every week end (about 100 hrs a year) always used barbed conections and the best quality of rubber car fuel lines, most (like my 701) use(d) the firewall groumet type, never had a problem, we (for self imposed mantainance rules in our club) change the gasoline hoses every two years. Not expensive. Never had found problems with the firewall area in the hoses...
Only add Simplicity and Lightness to a airplane. If not installed will not fail.
KISS (self explanatory
Saludos
