Looks like another beautiful day in Lakeland. The Lightning crew did arrive yesterday afternoon and will be setting up today. The new SLSA Lightning, N325AL, and an SLSA Jabiru will be parked in the light sport mall which is in a slightly different location this year. The mall will be just inside the walk in gate or more east than last year. If you know where the forum tents are, they the light sport mall is just north of that area. The other Lightning (and Jabiru) display is one "booth" east of where they have been for the last several years. Just head for the same location and you can't miss them.

The homebuilt parking area has a few more aircraft in it, but the building is still not open for business. Thus no way to talk about an assigned parking row for Lightnings. Maybe today.

Time for breakfast.

Hey Buz: I saw your jet parked out front, and the Lightning N324AL, but everything was locked up and no one was around. (I think it was about lunch time) Anyway, I will be over there on Tuesday. See you then.

The forecast rain for this morning did not happen (at least not yet) and the skies are clear with a 12 knot wind out of the SSW. Current temp is a nice 72 degrees. They are still calling for a chance of afternoon showers, but the way things look, I don't see where they would come from. A small shower or two would be appreciated to settle the dust in the aircraft parking areas.
I saw Nick and Mark this morning and they reported that Ryan did arrive in his demonstrator and it will be in the Lightning booth - not in the ultra light area as before. So you can see the Green Landings demonstrator along side the Tennessee demonstrator when you stop by the booth.
A few aircraft arriving this morning, but so far the field is nowhere near full, so come on down.
Blue skies,
Buz

CORRECTION----------------
Ryan is apparently here in Bob Haas' new jet, as the N number is N330BH. Looks nice. It is in the Lighning booth next to the silver demo.

The most exciting thing I have seen so far was the 3 ship (in trail) arrival of 3 Legend Cubs headed for their display booth. On landing the third one, painted silver to resemble a "Taylor Cub", had an exciting "spin out". His well executed ground loop on the runway was a 270 degree turn. He touched down on runway 27 and almost immediately turned left and ended up facing north. No apparent damage as he taxied in from there. Wind at the time was about 220 at 12. I remember every time I flew my Cessna 170 or my Cub here in the past, there would always be some sort of cross wind. My trips in the Bonanza or the Esqaul will almost always result in winds right down the runway. The pilot of this Cub apparently has the same "wind luck" that I always had. It got to be so bad that several years I would try to arrive before SNF closed RW 05/23 before the show started.

A few more aircraft are arriving this afternoon, even though we did have a small rain drop or two. Field remained VFR and certainly not enough rain to help the dusty parking area problem. My airplane is covered in dust because of a Lancair parked in front of me taxied in with lots of power.  Some people just don't realize what their prop wash is doing. bummer.

More later,
Buz

My estimate after two full days of SNF is fewer airplanes than previous years, fewer venders than previous years, less attendees than in previous years, and much less rain than last year. Folks, the weather has been great. The field is still dusty, but apparently a decision to burn the grass off the aircraft parking areas several weeks ago is the main problem. That probably should have been done several months ago instead of recently. There is nice green grass, but lots of soot in the sand.  All aircraft parked in the vintage and homebuilt areas are covered in fine sooty dust every day. But hey, we are having fun in the sun.

The Lightning and Jabiru booths always seem to have lots of people looking over the airplanes. So if that is any kind of indicator, this should be a good show for both companies. I even saw several of my Bonanza and Baron buddies looking over the Lightning and Jabiru. Just from listening in to the Arion team as they talk to potential customers, it looks like most shoppers are looking for an aircraft that meets light sport parameters. So that trend is apparently continuing.

There is still plenty of parking room in the homebuilt area, so come on down. I have not seen any Lightnings parked out there yet, but we do have two Esquals - N31BZ and Allan Maxwell's. However, tomorrow afternoon World Record Earl will be arriving. No they are not going to stop the airshow for him, he will plan his arrival for after the afternoon airshow is over.

The Lightning get together is still on for Friday at noon. We will meet at the Lightning booth. If you know where the FAA building is, the Lightning booth is on the road behind that building. See you there.
Buz

The wheel fairings look different.  Did they try out a Jabiru or old Esqual fairings on the newest LS?  Brian W.

Buz, Thanks for the update.I have been watching the AVweb videos for additional information. So far they have featured the Kitfox and Navigator 600 from Poland. However,I want to see the factory built Lightning being introduced at SNF. As a result,I sent a message this morning to the AVweb Editor requesting coverage. Maybe some other Lightning fans can do like wise and email the Editor today. It will be a loss for the folks that wanted to be at SNF this year but will not be able to get a visual and details on this new entry to a factory built LSA. Rgs.,CRG
