Walt... a quick thanks to you for the explanation of the prop governor operation... Your post is a typical example of why I still "lurk" here...!
I have heard of the exact case you mention of a windshield full of oil and dropping RPM... and I have never heard of the importance of bringing the prop control to full coarse to prevent oil from dumping overboard... wow... That could save someone's life! I hope everyone caught that "tidbit" and put it in their "toolbox" upstairs!

Thanks Jeff;
While not exactly an everyday occurrence it used to happen occasionally to Navions with an early Hartzell prop.. I witnessed one which destroyed the aircraft in the subsequent BLIND forced landing.
It was the subject of an FAA AD many years ago.
It is far less likely to occur with the CJ/Yak prop or the T6/Harvard due to better design but it is not impossible.
