Hello all. I recall somebody posting a note here some time ago about
how they hooked up their tach for the standard FWF kit from Zenith.
Larry has kindly sent me the drawing of his system, but he's using the
TP-45 modules and I'm not (yet). If anybody has used the standard tach
and the unmodified engine ignition from Stratus, can you please let me
know where your tach signal leads are connected? Also, did you make
your connections using the hand-written sketch Zenith supplies in their
FWF documentation?

Thanks very much.

Bill

Bill,
I used a standard VDO tach on my Stratus engine. The tach lead goes to
the ground side of the ignition coil. I did have some problems with an
unstable reading at around 3000 RPMs. I tracked it down to a short (2
msec) pulse that sometimes came from the system. I used the attached
circuit to tame the problem. Been flying over a year with a steady
reading tach.

I have the original Stratus ignition system with the second backup
system and a VDO tach from Zenith. I bought two small signal diodes
from radio shack and hooked the tach into the negative wire from
ignition module to the coil on each system through a diode. The diodes
isolate the two ignition systems from each other but allow the signal
from either to get out to the tach. My system is set up so that only
one system will run at any time.

Here's a drawing of what I did. When I first hooked the system up, I
had the diodes in the wrong way and had to reverse them. I think I
corrected this drawing to reflect that.
