hi all,
i am making a float for my fuek gauge. i am looking for a coating for the foam. i dont remember the type of foam but when i acquired it it was fuelproof. i am looking for an epoxy that is fuelproof. i dont think kreem or por 15 would be suitable as the coating should add strength. i can mix in some flox for added strength. any ideas appreciated.

Bob,
This was the only thing I could find in retail quantities:

http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm

In wholesale you're looking for something that
satisfies the UL1316 specification for fiberglass tanks. I found:

http://www.aoc-resins.com/web/site/productinfo/67/C10/
http://www.interplastic.com/app_show.asp?appid=3

If you find some more retail sources let us know. (John
McBean may have a source, since he's making the fuel tanks.)

The first link did not say anything about ethanol.

Compared to fossil distillates that stuff is sandpaper in a bottle. If it
doesn't say ethanol proof it probably isn't.

The other sites do specify they meet a federal requirement for underground
tanks holding ethanol... It says nothing about how long it will remain
ethanol resistant.

The first link did not say anything about ethanol.

For your information, Jabiru has now come with a service bulletin that says their engine can run with up to 10 percent ethanol. But they warn that those who have a Jabiru aircraft with the brown-coloured fuel tanks cannot use ethanol containing fuel. However, the later tanks, that are whitish in colour, can use ethanol. When asked how they treated those tanks, apparently they use Kreem.

Disclaimer: Heresay on the Jabiru list. Myself, I keep to Avgas. More expensive, here in Norway, but safer until I know more.
