For the technophiles out there, I am about to lay down some cold cash for a Viliv S5. It will be used as a backup GPS and flight planning system in the cockpit. Anyone have any experience with these devices?? (Note that they also come in a 32G SSD version)

Hi Ron,
power sounds al right however for a 4.8" screen 1024x600 is (out of my
view) to high of a resolution, the harddisk will longterm not last in a
cockpit environment you're better off with a SSD. What I'm missing
totally is how many nits the screen has as most of this gadgets are a
bit short in brightness. I'm currently working on my own hardware, intel
Atom 1.6Gig board with a 750nits Optrex 6.4" (640x480) screen where the
touchscreen will reduce that by around 100 nits.
Cheers to "Downunder"

I have a Samsung UMPC. The screen is just not bright enough to use in my 9A. It will be better in a 10, yet still not ideal.

I have a samsung Q1 ultra, and it's mostly visible, but not always.
I'm building a 1600 nit screen with a capacitve touch sensor. Most of the resitive sensors i looked at are rated for max 10000ft.
Has anyone ever had problems with resistive touch screens (most laptops tablets & pdas use it) working at high altitude?

Werner,
I bought the screens from Landmark Tech. LM190A-121X1-LO1 KIT $795 each. It comes with the controller, and inverter. They are 12 inch screens.
http://www.landmarktek.com/
I also found a chinese manufacturer that sells 10 inch screens for only a couple hundred bucks, 1500nits. The problem is that the resolution is only 800x600.
Regards,
Lenny

Hi Lenny,
thanks a lot, they sound very interesting, I see they sell opsware
screens too so they have the well known brands for high tech LCD's and
you better stay with a known quality company then buying "paperware"!
