Listers, someone recently told me the FAA requires that Lycoming engines are required to undergo a major overhaul after a maximum of 15 years
in service in order for them to be considered airworthy. Anyone aware of anything like this? I couldn't find this in the archives.

The short answer is;
Experimental aircraft – NO
Part 91 Aircraft – NO
Part 135 Aircraft – Factory recommendations (SB’s) required, probably YES.

Actually it is 12 years but treat it the same as the 2000 hour tbo requirement. it is mandatory for commercial operations but advisory only for general aviation operations. To find the info look in Lycoming service information 1009.
