Curtis took my quick drain and drilled it for safety wire - evidently a bad one slipped through as their website says they should be drilled.
They also gave me the proper torque setting for the fitting.
I had already put it back together with the original plug - didn't want to wait another weekend and the flying weather was good.
Just thought I should notify everyone of the outcome.

Here's the torque and sealant that they specified:
Torque Value = 15-18 ft lbs.
Use Teflon tape or equivalent sealant
This is for the CCA1700 quickdrain valve from Curtis.
