HI, I'm looking to buy a kitfox 3 or 4 and wondering if a 582 will be
good enough on floats (with a passenger). I'm looking at Puddlejumpers
amphies floats, about 150LBS. Any comments and numbers would be appreciated!
Noel, I think you had a 582 with IVO IFA, was it good enough??

regards

Richard

I think the plane would have been good enough to carry two depending on
weight.

My plane has an MTOW of only 950lb and I've never gone over that weight.
Full tanks, myself, fishing and emerg gear comes out around 35 lb short of
that weight. The 582 has very high power to weight ratio the Ivo lets you
take advantage of all of it.

Just of the record with the ivo my initial ROC from sea level is above
1500ft/min. Tanks full. Climb to altitude under 3000 averages just over
100 ft/min. As far as I can make out I use around 4 gal/ hr cruising and
close to twice that doing T&Gs.

Rate of climb.. I also made a typo it was supposed to be just over
1000'/min... Flying with a 100 ft/min ROC isn't what I'd consider safe
unless you were out on the praries.

I also forgot to say my plane is one of the last model II to be built and
was wupposed to be upgraded to model III... It has the under cambered wings
and is less than 600 lb tare.

you guys are getting some pretty darn good performance. My buddies KF II on wheels, 582 72" IVO IFA climbs about 1200 FPM and around 700 FPM on floats solo with 9 gallons in the nose tank, a little less if you fill the 12 gallon wing tank. My Avid with same engine and prop only gets about 900 FPM solo with 28 gallons.

No speed... 75-80 on a good day. But with the Ivo IFA I do get rocket ship
climb at close to 900 lb.

I'm getting close to getting the 'Fox back in the air with the new 912.

Richard;

I'm in Lanark Village just west of Ottawa. There are several Kitfoxs in Eastern Ontario. My own Mk II is just nearing completion (582 c box). I have a set of Zenair floats which I have purchased as I plan to keep it at my cottage. Give me a call at 613 259-3242 if you want to chat or come up and take a look at the plane.

Cheers
Ken
