|
|
I am completing my fuel tank installation on my Series 5 (1995) and have some questions about the fuel sight guage materials and improvements that have been made over the past 14 years by the factory or builders.
The original material is the stiff clear plastic that is heated and bent to shape. Is this the best material to use still?
The fittings are plastic and how have they done with auto fuel? Are these the same fittings as come in the new kits?
Before I finish the tanks I want to make any changes now that have been improvements. Thanks. Andy

Andy,
Get the sight gauge kit from KitfoxAircraft. I tried to use that clear plastic stuff, no good.

Andy,
I liked the heat bent material. I previously used the Tygon like tubing. I
did find, however that the plastic fittings were a regular and fairly
predictable source of leakage. I don't know why, but I had to peroidically
retighten the fittings.

Andy,
I would recommend you get the new sight gage kit. If you decide to use the one you have let me know as there are some things you can do to reduce the chance of leaks. I replaced mine with material and parts similar to the kit but would just get the kit if I did it today.
It saves a lot of figuring out and finding parts needed and is relatively inexpensive. It is much easier to install than fabricating the one supplied with the original wing kit.
