A while back I brought up the subject of unsteady carb sync and different types of throttle systems. Since then I have installed a MacFarlane Aviation 2into1 cable intended for our Rotaxes. After install I put my oil tube on it and fired it up, after mechanically synching the carbs, and the oil level stayed within 4" of one another from idle thru about 3500 rpm. According to my reliable source, 4" of oil is equal to about 1/4" of mercury, which is barely readable. That's the best mine has ever done. I shut it down...that's good enough for me. Will check it again after running it a while. BTW, I shortened the 6 foot cables to the exact same length and snaked them around in the engine compartment as necessary...I don't know if the same length is really necessary for proper synch, but wasn't taking any chances at cutting a $150 cable too short.
The downside is I am back to the cursed springs...maybe I can live with it. I may have to...I have tried the plans setup with springs, solid rods without springs, and Cessna/Piper type push/pull cables with no springs...
