Was flying along and noticed my AI was sitting cocked looked at vac and had none. Anything I could look at other than vac pump on the fritz? Last time I lost vac it ws in a cherokee in 1968. That time the vac instruments moved around, very confusing. This time nothing is moving at all. Anyone can say how to test pummp easily? (hate the thought of haveing to remove as that bottom nut is a bitch to get to) Charlie H

The only other thing to check is the inlet filter for the system. After that it is replace the pump and see.

You didn't say how many hrs on the pump. I don't believe in more than 300 to 500 then replace. They can fail anytime tho.
I'd check hoses first. If they are secure you need a new pump. It isn't likely your regulator turned itself off.

When my AI failed a few years ago it did exactly what you describe (in the clouds of course). My DG was still working, and my suction gage still showed in the green, so I knew it was the AI.

It is worth borrowing or buying the Rapco wrench for vacuum pumps. Makes
the bottom nut not too difficult. It is not unusual for vacuum pumps to
get just enough engine oil, either from the garlock seal failing or just
from other leaks to introduce enough drag to cause the drive coupler to
shear. I don't recall whether it was Tempest brand or other than now
makes the drive coupler area protected from oil.
