A customer called yesterday and told me that during his take-off run, his 60 amp circuit breaker popped. Right before the breaker popped, the idiot light came on for a second.
Some background: All new circuit breakers, new master switch, new battery and master relays, most wiring replaced, new Plane-Power alternator, and Zeftronics 15V00 regulator (I also installed an overvoltage idiot light next to the Mitchell ammeter gauge).
Now, I know the PP alternator is too long for the space allowed, so, during the installation, I used a hole saw to cut a hole behind the alternator and covered the hole from behind with baffle seal material.
I had him check the light on the 15V00, after resetting the breaker, and it behaved as advertised. He flew it back home, a 3 hour (tour) flight. No problems.
So, any ideas? Why would he get an overvoltage? Bob, you're the electric expert, I expect to hear from you.
