With the exception of some zinc chromate where metal meets metal not finish at all for the firewall. This as on the advice of an A&P. He also said if I just couldn't live without it use white paint.

You really don't want paint on it, not even the etch-primer. paint usually
burns and gives off toxic gases if very hot!

Since the firewall is galvanized steel, there's no need to paint it.
With no paint, it will be slightly lighter and there will be one less
thing that can burn. Also, the plain zinc coating will help reflect
engine heat away from the cabin.

If you are worried about paint burning and giving off toxic fumes I think by the time it can do you harm you are in real trouble already so just make it look nice and paint it.Even galvanized steel will rust [ saw a Skyfox Gazelle with a half rusted firewall that was around 15yrs old] .A galv. etch primer then a K2 top coat comes up looking good. Cheers
